If you want a V-shaped torso, the bent-over row may be the best exercise for building your back. Compared with the inverted row and the one-arm cable row, the standing bent-over barbell row activates more muscle across both your upper and lower back, according to Canadian scientists. But the movement also places the greatest load on your spine, says study author Stuart McGill, Ph.D. Your spine saver: When you bend over, keep the natural arch in your lower back. If your spine is rounded (like a cat's), you're doing the exercise wrong and increasing your risk of a herniated disk.Labels: Fitness |
