SEX

IF LOOKS COULD THRILL

Here’s a pickup tip: After catching her eye, go in for her mind. British researchers found that women aren’t attracted to men who initiate eye contact and then quickly break it. An averted gaze sends the signal that you’re more interested in something (or somebody) else, say the study authors. Of course, there’s a fine line between a come-hither look and a creepy stare. Keep it friendly by focusing on women who are close by—you’ll be able to lock eyes and then immediately step up to start a conversation.

LIMBER UP FOR LOVE

Yoga can increase your endurance between the sheets, according to a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Men with premature ejaculation who practiced an hour of yoga a day for 12 weeks were able to triple the length of time they lasted during intercourse. In fact, they had more staying power than men who took Prozac, which is prescribed off-label to treat PE. “Yoga breathing teaches men to control anxiety, while the movements strengthen their pelvic muscles,” says study author Vikas Dhikav, M.D.

THE CANDY MAN CAN’T
Drinking pop may make you a bedroom flop. Canadian scientists found that maintaining a diet high in sugar can temporarily lower your testosterone levels, which in turn can undermine your erections and sap your sex drive. That’s because a constant surfeit of sugar creates a domino effect: Your triglycerides go up, your sex hormone–binding globulin (SHBG) goes down, and then your T goes into hibernation. “When you’re deficient in SHBG, it signals your body to stop making testosterone altogether,” says study author Geoffrey Hammond, Ph.D. If you’re consuming a high-sugar diet, this chain reaction can happen in 4 months. But swear off sweets, and your T should come roaring back.

A BATTLE OF WITS
Men may be the smarter and the dumber gender, states a University of Edinburgh study. When scientists measured the intelligence of 2,500 adult brothers and sisters, they found no significant difference in average IQ. But men were twice as likely to be in the top and bottom tiers.
