A Month Of Milestones
I didn’t realise it as I was planning for it, but I finally came around to the fact that August 2017 is quite special for a lot of reasons. Okay, a few reasons.
For one, it’s the month in which we mark the 60th birthday of our country as an independent nation. It’s a momentous occasion, one that necessitates all of us take stock of where we’ve come from, how far we’ve come, where we are now, where we’re heading, where we want to go, and how we’ll get there. Coasting, stagnating and floating idly by is not the Men’s Health way to make a journey successful, and it is certainly not what Tunku Abdul Rahman meant when he implored all of us to be “masters of our destiny”.
Secondly, the 29th SEA Games 2017 takes place in Kuala Lumpur from 19 to 30 August, while the 9th ASEAN Para Games is happening next month, from 17 to 23 September. Hands up if you can remember the hoopla surrounding the 1998 Commonwealth Games! (Gosh, I’m old...) The region’s best athletes will be congregating here, and I’m looking forward to cheering on our compatriots who will fly the Jalur Gemilang and will give their all for gold medal. We asked five of them to share their best advice with us, and I highly recommend you check it out if you want your health and fitness levels to graduate to an elite level. I know I do.
And here’s where I segue to the third, and more personal reason: I know that I and my fellow Men’s Health Malaysia colleagues are one step closer to being our very best, thanks to the #MH100Days journey we’ve just completed. At long last, we are publishing the results, and lessons learnt by, all six guys who took on the “100 Days to Muscle” challenge. I can’t tell you how proud I am of my teammates (and also of my own progress), but what made me even prouder is the fact that all of them are going to keep building on the hard work they’ve put in over the past three-and-a-bit months.
